Treat yourself to Fat Hippo:
Fat Hippo may be the new kids on the block in Nottingham's food scene but they're quickly becoming one of the city's favourite restaurants for delicious juicy burgers. The independent chain first opened their doors right in the middle of lockdown but this doesn't seem to be discouraging them. Despite the fact that nobody has actually stepped foot inside the place yet, word is quickly spreading about Fat Hippo's jaw dropping take on the humble burger. Essentially, the food is doing all the talking, and rightly so!
Fat Hippo describe their menu as "good old fashioned, roll up your sleeves + get it all over your face food" and nothing we could possibly think up would do a better job of letting you know what you're in for. This is honest, unapologetic comfort food that will leave your belly full and your taste buds overjoyed. There really is no dignified way of eating one these gigantic burgers and that's by no means a bad thing. Fat Hippo are the kings and queens of stacking and you'd be hard pushed to find a burger packed with more quality ingredients. The sheer height of these things is boarder-line intimidating at first glance, but you'll forget all about that from the moment you take your first bite, at which point your main focus will be devouring your meal down to the last crumb. There's a good range of variety on offer from beef to chicken and even a strong selection of vegan options.
As good as the burgers are, let's not forget about sides. Hippo burger know you're here for a good time, not a healthy time and their unique names seem to perfectly reflect that. Dishes such as their 'Trash Browns' are a perfect example. The dish is a generous portion of deep fried hash browns topped with liquid cheese and & Cajun onion strings for good measure. Other items include, Beer Battered Cheese Balls and Cheeseburger Wachos. Most of the sides appear to be available as a vegetarian option which is good news for non-meat eaters. An order here is the ultimate cheat meal.
