Missing Love Island? Create a Summer of Love in Nottingham

Posted on: 25 July 2017

Don’t mug yourself off Nottingham! Love Island may be over for another year but you can still create your own summer of fun right here in Nottingham city centre – so put all of your eggs in our basket and see if our summer of fun matches up to your type on paper.

Pretend you’re in the villa at Nottingham Beach – City by-the-sea

Watching Love Island for seven weeks made us crave balmy evenings enjoying drinks and lazy days by the pool; now the beach cannot promise glorious weather and an infinity pool (squint your eyes and the fountains may just do it) but it can offer free family fun in our great city centre. Why not gather your own little islanders together and bring them down to play in the sand and have a go on the fun fair games, or send a TEXT! and arrange to couple up at the Beach Bar? You can enjoy delicious cocktails, MOD pizza and even watch some summer films.  Stay up to date with all things Nottingham Beach here.

Kit yourself out at Primark

We don’t think ‘Ayup me melt’ will be catching on anytime soon in Nottingham, but if you’re a huge fan of all the Love Island catchphrases and banter then you’ll be buzzing to know Primark are the official stockists of Love Island t-shirts. From ‘#Grafting’ to ‘I used to be in Blazin’ Squad’ and many more – you can pick up yours on Long Row from only £6 (we’re not bantering we swear)

Satisfy your melt craving

Has anyone else been craving a tuna melt ever since Johnny entered the villa? Have a wander nearly a stone’s throw away from the beach and head to Café Sobar on Friar Lane, where you’ll find a delicious tuna, sweetcorn and cheese panini, as well as ham and cheese, mushroom and cheese and many more. If you’re feeling extra melty then Dolcino on Beastmarket Hill has artisan gelato made fresh in store and delicious grilled sandwiches too!

Create an epic date night

You may not have the Love Island budget to whisk your partner away for prosecco on a super yacht or dinner in the middle of the sea, but Nottingham city centre has some gorgeous date night hot spots which may lead to a night in your very own hideaway. Hockley Arts Club on Carlton Street is the ideal spot to impress, with its cherry blossom room sure to help romance blossom and a cocktail menu more creative than Kem and Chris’s raps. If it’s sumptuous food you’re after then World Service on Castlegate is on hand to give you that secluded date night ambiance. Looking for more date night inspiration? try our food and drink finder.

Cue the TEXT!

Those islanders loved nothing more than texting behind each other’s backs and snapping seductive selfies. So why not keep your own phone buzzing and snap a picture of you and your mates with our city centre dinosaurs? Re-couple with Roary on Lister Gate, Squawkers on Carlton Square or our Ayupmeduckasaurus on Maid Marian Way and tag your selfies on any of our social media channels using @itsinnottingham and the hashtag #Chinasaurs17, for your chance to win a city centre experience goody bag worth over £50! (Ok, so it’s not a £50,000 prize pot a la Love Island, but it’s still fab!)
