200 Degrees Shake It Up With New Vegan Milkshakes And Smoothies

Posted on: 09 August 2018

When we got the news that 200 Degrees had invited us to try their brand new line of vegan milkshakes, smoothies and snacks. Our first thought was…. well, we won’t say what our first thought was but let’s just say the idea of a “creamy” milkshake without the dairy didn’t exactly fill us with excitement.

Well we were wrong.

Wrong not to be excited, wrong to think that an amazing vegan milkshake couldn’t be done and COMPLETELY wrong to think that we wouldn’t be craving another at the time of typing this blog.

Upon arriving at the quaint coffee house located in a 16th century building, which neighbours the Flying Horse Walk, we were instantly greeted by the friendly staff and invited to take a seat.

The milkshakes arrived and dairy or not, they certainly looked like the real deal. It’s easy to see that a lot of time and care has been put in to the presentation.

Looks aside though, the taste is the real hero of the show. Dubious at first, we took our first sip of the chocolate flavoured shake. The glass hardly touched the table before we were reaching for our second sip and before we knew it we’d consumed the whole thing (always a great sign). The texture is thick and creamy and the chocolate flavouring is sweet and satisfying, everything you’d expect from a classic milkshake. For a moment you forget that you’re drinking a vegan friendly milkshake, you're just drinking a milkshake and as simple as that achievement sounds, it’s exactly what makes it such a triumph.

Next up, smoothies. Let us tell you, on a hot day you’d struggle to find anything more refreshing. With a choice of either mango, pineapple and passionfruit or strawberry, blackberry and raspberry, you won’t be left disappointed. The perfect blend of sweet and sour flavours shows off the attention to detail and the resulting colours makes both drinks aesthetically pleasing.

Complimenting either drink with a ‘Super Dark Brownie’ or ‘Dark And Fruity Flapjack’  is a must if you’re feeling peckish. Again, 100% vegan friendly and not lacking in the taste department.

We went into this blog with the intention of letting the fantastic Nottingham vegan community know about some amazing new options to try. That would be an injustice though. We think everyone needs to try one of these milkshakes or smoothies because you’d be missing out not to. Whether you’re looking to cut down on dairy or just fancy trying an alternative, you won’t go far wrong with 200 Degrees.
