How To Get More From Your Shopping Trips - A Guest Blog by Holly

Vlogger and social media guru Holly needed an outfit for an upcoming special occasion so we sent Holly and her best friend, Lucy for a day out in Nottingham to shop the fantastic choice of stores that offer trends for people of all sizes.

The pair was treated to a makeover at House of Fraser at intu Victoria Centre where they experimented with some lovely new colours and mastered some great new looks for the new season.

The friends made a day of it and enjoyed a tasty lunch at Mowgli Street Food in Hockley as well as a cheeky cocktail or two at Las Iguanas on Chapel Bar.

 Here’s how they got on:

"What’s better than a day out in Nottingham city centre with your best friend? A day out in Nottingham city centre with your best friend PLUS food, fashion, makeup and last but most excitingly … cocktails!!!

However, it wasn’t all fun and games; we were on a mission to find me and Lucy an outfit! I’ve got a wedding coming up and I wanted something classic but fun so we set off to see what we could find!

Before we got stuck in we had to top up our tanks with some exceptional cake and coffee at 200 Degrees in Flying Horse Walk and get planning - where should we go? What was I exactly looking for? What about accessories and make up?

Once we were sufficiently fed and watered we headed over to House of Fraser to get a little makeover. Sometimes when you’re stuck in a rut with your makeup the best thing to do is get an expert to do it! We learnt some fun new techniques, tried out some new looks and got some amazing products. Lucy got a makeover at her favourite brand, Bare Minerals, and I headed straight for Bobbi Brown!

After we’d learnt loads of new makeup tricks and had fed our brains it was time to feed our bellies! Mowgli is one of my favourite places to eat in Nottingham at the moment. The decor is amazing, the food and cocktails delectable and being able to eat whilst swaying gently backwards and forwards on the swing chairs is an actual delight! With loads of vegan choices for the lovely @lucyandlentils and a gorgeous chicken curry for me, followed by an ice cream cone for dessert, we were fit to burst!

Now it was time to get down to the real nitty gritty…the shopping! We headed to Marks and Spencer, H&M, New Look, Kurt Geiger and Monsoon and John Lewis & Partners in the Vic Centre and we found some gorgeous options.

After browsing through loads of beautiful pieces we both settled on EXACTLY THE SAME DRESS! A stunning navy linen twist front shirt dress from Monsoon! Luckily we didn’t need it for the same event. A lot of people would be upset at their friends buying the same outfit as them but as a plus size lady it was weirdly exciting! For years I’ve had to shop in special plus size shops or plus size sections so it’s incredible that so many shops have extended their mainline collections to be so much more inclusive, so I can wear the same dress as my size 8 friend.

I needed to add accessories and John Lewis & Partners came through with some fantastic animal print. The dress was so simple so I thought a fun leopard print clutch with a bold tassel and some zebra print shoes would jazz it up nicely.

What better way to celebrate our successful shopping trip than with a cocktail at Las Iguanas!"
