What's your connection to Nottingham, and what do you love most about it?

My family hails from North Nottinghamshire, and as a child, I have some really fond memories of visiting the Lions! Nottingham has always had a special place in my heart, and now, I’m lucky enough to be living and working here - something that feels both familiar and exciting.

What's your role at It's in Nottingham, and how did you get into it?

I’m the CEO at It's in Nottingham. My journey here is a bit of an interesting one - I was originally working on the northwest coast of Australia, and after being brought in to Kent to lead a sporting charity and a world-class events venue, fate took an unexpected turn. The same consultants who had placed me in Kent reached out one day and said, “You’re from Nottingham, right? We’ve got the perfect job for you.” And here I am!

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working around the world, particularly with boards at a strategic level, focusing on turning around struggling companies and setting them up for long-term success. My background is in Sports Science, but as I progressed, I realised that coaching athletes and developing people in sports is very similar to leading and growing successful companies. That led me to pursue an MBA, which further shaped my approach to leadership.

What's your favourite hidden gem in the city that visitors often overlook?

I can’t pick just one! Flying Horse Walk is a fantastic spot to get some delicious cheese, and it’s a bit of a hidden gem for anyone who appreciates great local produce. But if you’re into cool vibes and craft beer, Hopkinson’s is a must-visit. Not only do they serve up some of the best beer and BBQ food in the city, but the people there are some of the friendliest you’ll meet in Nottingham.

If you had just one day to experience the best of Nottingham, what would you do?

Oh, this is a fun one! I’d start by paddleboarding along the canal to get a unique view of the city. Then, I’d dive into a bit of history with the Ghost Tour before checking out the Watson Fothergill tour to explore the architecture. Finally, I’d wrap up the day with some cocktails at The Cosy Club - a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the atmosphere.
