What's your connection to Nottingham, and what do you love most about it?
I moved to Nottingham when I was 13, right in the middle of secondary school, which was a big adjustment. Coming from London, one of the biggest differences I noticed was how much quieter it is here. In some ways, that was a welcome change - less chaos, easier to get around, and a more relaxed pace. But what I love most about Nottingham is that it almost feels like a condensed version of London. The hidden vintage shops in Hockley, the buzz of Clumber Street, and the endless choices of bars and restaurants make the city feel like home. It’s got everything you need, just in a more close-knit and charming way!
What's your role at It's in Nottingham, and how did you get into it?
I joined It’s in Nottingham in July 2024, fresh out of university after completing my degree at the University of Nottingham. I’m part of the Operations team as a Business Liaison Officer, supporting businesses in the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors. Having worked in both hospitality and retail myself, it’s really rewarding to now be in a position where I can help these businesses thrive. From safety schemes to day-to-day support, I love being part of a team that makes a real difference to Nottingham’s business community.
If you had just one day to experience the best of Nottingham, what would you do?
I’d start my day with a full English breakfast at Fox Café in Hockley and if the sun’s out, I’d grab a spot outside for some quality people-watching. Then, I’d wander over to Bridlesmith Gate for a browse, finishing at Waterstones because, let’s be honest, you can never have too many books!
For lunch, I’d stop by Kokoro. When they opened in Nottingham, I was obsessed immediately - it reminds me of being back in London, and their Chicken Katsu is unbeatable. After that, I’d spend the afternoon exploring the city, popping into exhibitions at Nottingham Contemporary or taking a stroll through The Park area to admire the architecture.
As for the evening? It’s all about Nottingham’s nightlife! I’d start at Coco Tang, the Asian-inspired speakeasy with its hidden entrance, neon lights, and stunning vintage décor (not to mention, the mirrors are perfect for a photo op!). Next, I’d head to The Alchemist on King Street - because where else can you sip on a bubbling, colour-changing cocktail? To end the night, Calluna is a must. It’s got a cosy terrace, live DJs playing the best house music, and an unbeatable atmosphere. The perfect way to wrap up a day in Nottingham!
