I imagine that like me, after eight months spent indoors in your pajamas, you are ready to put on your glad rags and head out to see a show about straight male crossdressers.
This is an important subject to me, as I am one of them and we are still mostly a punchline.
I saw a Mario-themed stag-do yesterday. There were multiple Marios, Luigis, and Yoshis, whilst the stag was dressed as Princess Peach.
And I wonder why that was.
What is meant to be inherently funny about a man dressed like a lady?
It’s a status thing, isn’t it?
I know that sounds really heavy, but I have done my best to make it as light, fun, and accessible as possible, so don’t worry, ok?
Rob Kemp is an Edinburgh Fringe Best Newcomer nominated, multiple award-winning comedian, usually found doing silly multimedia stuff, but on this occasion would like to tell you a personal story about shame, identity, gender expectations, and being true to yourself.
