Being a father in the 21st century is complicated.
Being the father of a young son of mixed South Indian, Turkish, ad Austrian heritage, event more so.
Three very different stories of being and having a dad are brought together with humour and sensitivity, through physical theatre and multilingual text.
All performances contain creative, integrated captions.
Altered Skin is a pioneering, multi-lingual theatre company, formed in 2013 by Creative Director Shane Shambhu, and is based in Birmingham. Our unique brand of bharatanatyam inspired physical theatre laced with humour integrates movement and text in an exciting and accessible new theatrical vocabulary. All our work is created through collaboration, merging art forms and cultures from global perspectives, initiating new thinking around narratives of transcultural identity.
Our previous show, Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer draws on Shane’s own lived experience of growing up in multi cultural London, describing his journey from unlikely bharatanatyam dance student to international performer. Essentially a coming of age story, it describes the multiple identities that the children of migrants develop growing up in the UK, showing one face at home and another to the outside world. Its 2020 tour was cut short by Covid and a planned British Council tour of India has also been postponed to December 2022, with UK dates over the summer.
