What’s your connection to Nottingham, and what do you love most about it?
Nottingham holds a special place in my heart for its rich history, vibrant culture, and welcoming community. Moving here from the south coast, it took me a while to get used to not seeing the sea every day, but Nottingham’s unique charm has more than made up for it. It’s also where I’ve raised a family, and watching them grow up here has only deepened my connection to this wonderful city.
What I love most is the perfect blend of old and new – you can walk through historic streets steeped in stories, like those of Robin Hood, and then find yourself surrounded by trendy cafes and bars. The green spaces, the buzzing creative energy, and the sense of pride and resilience among the people make Nottingham feel like home in its own special way.
What’s your role at It’s in Nottingham, and how did you get into it?
My role at It's in Nottingham is Campaigns and Sponsorship Executive. Before joining the team, I worked in the city at a PR agency for 12 years, honing my skills in communications and campaign management. After that, I ventured into freelancing for a couple of years, which gave me a lot of flexibility and variety in projects. However, I missed the camaraderie and collaboration of a team environment, so I decided to hang up my freelance hat and join this fantastic organisation. It’s been great to channel my experience into supporting Nottingham and its vibrant community through creative campaigns and meaningful sponsorship opportunities.
If you had just one day to experience the best of Nottingham, what would you do?
One day in Nottingham is not enough! But one of my favourite things to do is to meet friends for a leisurely brunch at somewhere like Yolk in Hockley or The Cosy Club before hitting the shops! I love exploring the quirky boutiques and vintage shops dotted around the city, as well as having a mooch around the shops in Victoria Centre.
The day has to end with a cocktail or two and Nottingham has no shortage of amazing spots to choose from. But for me, it’s hard to beat the amazing cocktails at Pogo (mixologists of the best Singapore Sling!) or 31K – two of my favourite places in the city.
A hidden gem for me has to be Flying Horse Walk. It’s brimming with brilliant independent shops and to top it off - it’s home to a stunning Vivienne Westwood store – which not many people know about!
