What's your connection to Nottingham, and what do you love most about it?
I first visited Nottingham with my dad in 2012 to watch UFC at the Motorpoint Arena - one of my favourite memories of the city. I returned in 2018 for management training at New Look, staying for a week, which gave me the chance to explore Nottingham properly. I loved the energy of the city, and working in such a vibrant environment was exactly what I was looking for. Just over a year later, I made the move permanent to start my degree at NTU. During that time, I immersed myself in the local music scene, spending countless nights at The Bodega, The Chameleon, and The Running Horse.
What's your role at It's in Nottingham, and how did you get into it?
As Operations Manager at It’s in Nottingham, I oversee the effectiveness of the operations team, ensuring smooth engagement delivery, problem-solving, and the development and management of both new and existing city centre schemes. A key part of my role involves working with partner agencies to make Nottingham a safer, more welcoming place.
My work is incredibly varied - one day, I might be conducting ward walks with local councillors and partner agencies; the next, I could be organising street cleaning initiatives or exploring ways to help businesses collaborate on fresh ideas for the city.
I stepped into this role after supervising stores in the city centre and having previously worked with It’s in Nottingham. The position - then titled Business Liaison Officer Supervisor, offered me a better work-life balance and a more dynamic workload. It also gave me greater creative freedom, allowing me to introduce new systems and tools to streamline the team’s work, as well as branded uniforms to ensure they were easily identifiable by our members.
What's your favourite hidden gem in the city that visitors often overlook?
My favourite spots in Nottingham would either be a walk around Wollaton Park, sipping San Pellegrino Limonata outside Hopkinson in Summer, or having a drink with friends at places like 31K, the Angel, and Hockley Arts Club. Better not forget date nights at Penny Lane, our go-to spot!
