What is the Safe Space Pledge?
The Safe Space Pledge is a city-wide initiative dedicated to improving safety within Nottingham’s night-time and day-time economy. Delivered in partnership by the Consent Coalition and It’s in Nottingham, the pledge empowers both licensed and non-licensed venues to take meaningful action in reducing violence, harassment and intimidation.
To take part in this programme venues commit to eight key actions, including providing trained staff, creating a designated safe space, and taking reports of violence or harassment seriously. Over 65 venues have joined the pledge, reinforcing Nottingham’s commitment to creating a safer, more welcoming city centre for everyone.

Why should your business get involved?
Joining the Safe Space Pledge demonstrates your business’s commitment to making Nottingham a safer city for all. In addition, by becoming a Safe Space accredited venue, you’ll benefit from –
- Access to free, expert-led training for your staff
- Accreditation that highlights your venue as a trusted and proactive space
- Resources such as posters and documentation to support your staff and customers
- Enhanced reputation as a business that prioritises the safety and well-being of its customers and community
By joining the pledge you will become part of a network of venues across Nottingham addressing violence against women and girls, and promoting a positive, inclusive culture in Nottingham’s night-time and day-time economy.

Hear from businesses on what they have to say about the Safe Space Pledge and the expert-led training –
“In line with our commitment to make Broadway a safe and welcoming space for all, our front of house managers and supervisors recently attended training around the Safe Space Pledge. We found the sessions valuable for improving our understanding of the key issues for women’s safety in the hospitality industry, and also for identifying practical steps which we can now implement, to ensure our customers have a safe and enjoyable time with us”. – Broadway Cinema
“I am genuinely proud as a Nottingham native to have this initiative in our city and to work in a venue that has committed to the Safe Space Pledge. As a citizen, I feel secure in the knowledge that the safety of women and girls in Nottingham is taken seriously. As a business, I feel strongly about being able to assist, provide a safe space for those in need, and to support Nottingham throughout this programme. It is my hope that this becomes standard within the UK”. – Leonardo Hotels
“The training, schemes and accreditations have been very helpful in terms of our staff being better equipped to help those in need. We also feel that it has helped to bring us into the wider Nottingham community which is also very rewarding. The team at It’s in Nottingham are great and we really appreciate what they do!” – The Barley Twist
