What’s your connection to Nottingham, and what do you love most about it?

I moved to Nottingham as a child and have spent most of my life here - studying, working, and raising a family - so it truly feels like home. What I love most about Nottingham is its incredible diversity. As a Trustee for the It’s in Nottingham Foundation, I’ve had the privilege of seeing firsthand the work that goes on behind the scenes to make the city more accessible and welcoming for everyone. Knowing that so many people are dedicated to improving Nottingham makes me incredibly proud to call it home.

What’s your role at It’s in Nottingham, and how did you get into it?

I’m the Office Manager at It’s in Nottingham, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. While fetching milk for yet another round of office tea might not be the most glamorous part of the job, planning the Christmas party certainly makes up for it!

I originally joined as a Project Assistant, where I loved being involved in various initiatives across the city. Over time, I realised my real strength lies in organising and streamlining processes, so I naturally transitioned into my current role. It wasn’t something I planned, but it turns out I love making things run efficiently, and keeping the team well-caffeinated!

What’s your favourite hidden gem in the city that visitors often overlook?

The Green Heart is a hidden gem that many people might not have discovered yet - often just passing through on their way from Nottingham Train Station to the city centre. But if you pause for a moment, you’ll notice what a peaceful and inviting space it is. It’s a lovely spot to take in the city’s atmosphere, and tucked away in the shade of Nottingham Central Library, there’s even a charming children’s play area, perfect for families on a warm summer’s day. With its central location and easy access from both the train and bus stations, it’s an underrated place to relax and enjoy a quieter side of Nottingham.

If you had just one day to experience the best of Nottingham, what would you do?

If I had just one day to experience Nottingham, I’d eat my way around the city like The Very Hungry Caterpillar! Nottingham is a foodie’s dream, offering a huge variety of cuisines from around the world, and I never get bored of trying new places. My personal favourite is Vietnamese food, and I have yet to find anything that beats the incredible flavours of Pho here in Nottingham. With so many independent eateries, street food spots, and hidden gems, a day spent indulging in the city’s culinary scene would be my perfect Nottingham experience.
